Anxiety + Prayer = Peace

“Prayer turns anxiety to peace.”

  • So says the man in prison to the people in a city hostile to their Christian faith.
  • So says the man facing possible execution to the people prone to fear their adversaries—dogs, evildoers, flesh-mutilators.
  • So says the lonely man to the people worried about a dear friend’s illness.
  • So says the man surrounded by selfish companions to the people with rivaling members in their church.
  • So says the man in financial distress to the people battling their own sinful desires.

In the midst of all these anxieties and more (read Philippians), Paul tells Christians of every age…

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

  1. So says the woman with 5 children, who has received a breast cancer diagnosis. I literally papered the cabinets and mirrors (and practically any other flat surface) of my house, all over, with these wonderful verses from Philippians after receiving that difficult news, and God has been faithful to grant peace. Great reminder, Pastor Anderson, thank you.

  2. Andrea, your comment is simultaneously encouraging and humbling. Awesome. Our Lord never disappoints. Grace to you.

  3. Amazing. I turned to Philippians this very morning, in need of peace. And found it.
