Marketing Idea for the Big Ten

Using venues from other sports is all the rage in modern sports marketing. Who doesn’t want to see a hockey game at Fenway or a football game at Wrigley?!

Now that the Big Ten has agreed to play “half court” to accommodate the field for Saturday’s Northwestern-Illinois game, all kinds of new possibilities have opened up. Why not have Ohio State and Michigan play in a classic basketball building like Madison Square Garden? As long as you could get 10 yards of turf down, you’d be set. You could play 2-hands anywhere; do a 5-Mississippi rush with 1 blitz per 4 downs; say 2 completions equal a first down; even have one guy play all-time-QB. Or just do like my brothers and I did growing up and play knee football in the living room.

Just trying to help. We’re on a roll.

Next up? NASCAR. In go-karts. On The Frozen Tundra.

  1. Or… church in a bar!

    Oh, wait…

  2. Well, Greg, despite my snarkiness, it sounds like a good time was had by all. Kind of a cool idea, actually.

  3. Are you dissing outdoor hockey?

That is back to its roots, man. It’s pure hockey (and verrrry cold…)

  4. I too used to play knee football with my brother, as well as knee basketball, knee baseball, knee hockey, and knee soccer. Needless to say, our knees took a beating and our pants often needed mending, but it was fun by all.
