Bruce McAllister on the Vicarious Atonement

Photo of Bruce McAllisterBob Jones University is unpacking its creed through a series of chapel sermons. My friend Bruce McAllister was given the privilege of preaching on the phrase “His vicarious atonement for the sins of mankind by the shedding of His blood on the cross.” You can find the message here.

I love that guy, and better yet, I love that doctrine. Good stuff. I commend it to you.

  1. So, Chris, what did you think of Randy Leedy’s message on “His identification as the Son of God”?

  2. Hi, Dan. Sorry, but I’ve not heard it yet.

  3. These messages on the university’s creed are something they should have done long ago, and probably should be repeated every 4 years. Unfortunately, the creed becomes something the students recite from memory, but not something to which they give much thought about its meaning.

  4. In Leedy’s sermon on “His Identification as the Son of God, he argues for the eternal subordination of the Son. And I suppose, then, that that is the university’s official position. I don’t believe that’s what I was thinking those 9 years I recited it every day, and would not think so now. Just curious what you thought about that since it is one of those issues that has its proponents on both sides within conservative Christianity (although probably a little more toward eternal subordination in America and quite a bit more against that idea in Europe and Australia/NZ).

But maybe I shouldn’t have hijacked this thread to bring up a different sermon/subject since your post is about vicarious atonement. Just ignore this, and if and after you listen to Leedy’s sermon, if you want you can mention it in a different post…or not.

Actually, they have done it before, I have a CD of mp3 sermons that I picked up from the bookstore during a visit a couple of years ago. The sermons were done in 2005. Here’s the list

    Royce Short – Inspiration
Stewart Custer – Creation of Man
    Mark Minnick – Virgin Birth
Bruce McAllister – Identification as Son of God
Chris Barney – Christ’s Vicarious Atonement
Bob Wood – Christ’s Bodily Resurrection
Randy Jaeggli – Christ’s Power to Save Men from Sin
Steve Hankins – The New Birth
Stephen Jones – The Gift of Eternal Life

    FWIW

  6. ah, nuts, sorry about that errant coding – I did it in SI style, not in HTML.
