Inspiring Stuff

I had heard of “Team Hoyt” before, but a friend recently pointed me to these videos. Amazing.

Here’s an NBC story, and here’s a video montage.

  1. I should probably have included a disclaimer regarding the music from the montage, especially since my opinion on CCM is so murky. (That was sarcasm.) O well.

  2. No problem, Chris. I was too busy weeping to notice.

  3. I misted, Dale, but I was afraid my dear wife might become dehydrated. Yikes. It is a touching story, to be sure.

  4. Chris,

I actually have a book about the Hoyts sitting on my desk as I read this. It is called, “It’sOnly A Mountain: Dick and Rick Hoyt, Men of Iron” by Sam Nall. I picked it up for fifty cents near the end of last year from our local library (they have an area where they sell books they are getting rid of – hardbacks for 50 cents and paperbacks for 25 cents).

It is interesting to read some of the stuff that they did. They really practiced “mainstreaming” long before it was popular to do so. The book reads kind of slow and there is some language issues and a lot of other “worldly” elements to wade through, but there is also some interesting things and some things that will turn you a little, ahem, “misty”.

  5. Frank, any word on their relationship to Christ? My first thought was what a great witness for the grace of God, and a wonderful venue through which to display it. I didn’t see it in the clips, though the music at least mentioned Christ (disclaimer: I’m not debating validity of ccm with the question).

I don’t want to spoil the impact of the message with the question, I just pray for this family to know Christ, and if they do, to reflect God’s presence in their lives, and to give all the praise and glory to God who provides the template for our love.
