Another Update from Brazil

Many of you prayed for my brother Dan, a missionary in Brazil, following a frightening series of events which include the shooting of fellow missionary John Leonard, Dan’s return home for a time, and the recent shooting in which Dan became involved. Thank you! Here is another update. It is encouraging, but also a reminder to pray for the safety and effectiveness of our missionaries (II Thes. 3:1-2).

From 5/3/06:

Dans FamilyYour outpouring of prayers and support for us has left us speechless. Thank you for the many emails of encouragement. It seems that we are asked a dozen times a day, “How are you, holding up?” We are doing well, there have been many bad dreams amongst all of us, but God’s grace has once again proved sufficient for our every need.

From 5/10/06:

Ministry continues here at a feverish pace as we prepare for summer mission’s teams and summer ministry with our Bible Institute students. On top of this normal ministry opportunities abound, for which we praise the Lord and ask for strength in the same breath.

Dan had lunch with Dr. Rui Costa Friday. Dr. Rui helped get John transferred out of the public health system and then on to the US last year. Dan had met him twice before, but since last year, they have become friends. Dr. Rui will be starting a Bible Study with Dan in English this week. He appears to be very open and have many questions. Pray for his salvation.

Saturday, Linda led the ladies meeting. The weeks of planning and preparing paid off with over 60 attending. Pray that the Gospel message will touch each of their hearts and that we will know how to follow up on these contacts.

Eduardo and Juliana continue to participate in our services. They agreed to have a home Bible Study with Dan. Pray for their oldest boy David who will be doing a Bible Study with our son Micah. We have been invited to their home Saturday and will be at another neighbor’s for an engagement get together with close family and friends. May Christ be seen in us.

Vanha accepted Christ over a year ago, but has grown very slowly. She asked to begin a discipleship study this week. Pray for her growth and also physical needs as her husband has left her and her son.

One of our neighbors was kidnapped last week. Praise the Lord for his safe return and pray for safety and our boldness to witness for Christ in the midst of this storm. Dan has gotten to know another neighbor because of a wall that fell in a recent storm. Pray for Alexandre and his wife Monica to trust Christ.

His servants and your co-laborers,

Dan & Linda Anderson

  1. Thank you for keeping us updated: what wonderful news! May God be praised for His mercy endures forever! Be assured this family will continue to remain in my daily prayers along with the newest additions to the Kingdom of God! May the blessings of God be with this ministry and also with you, Chris, for your family.

  2. Thanks, Dale. Your prayers for both Dan’s family & mine are appreciated.

“Finally, brethren, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you; and that we will be rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith.” (II Thes. 3:1-2)

  3. I’m humbled by the example of those who, for the sake of Him who loved us, place themselves in difficult, and potentially harmful, circumstances to preach the Word. What excuse have I, in the comfort of the US, to not spread the Gospel. What? For fear of a little scorn? Your family is an inspiration. It is a privilege and honor to remember them in prayer to the Almighty. Thank you for sharing their ministry with us, the extended family of Christ.
