Greg Habegger and I are preparing to start a new website that will make the new hymns that are somewhat buried here at My Two Cents more accessible. We have some technical and artistic gurus ready to help, and we’re hoping to have the site up and running before long. However, we’re missing something important—a [...]

I recently collaborated with Dr. Paul S. Jones (church bio/company site) on a new hymn entitled “Praise Our Savior, Jesus Christ.” I prepared (and repaired and re-prepared) the text over a number of months, then at the recommendation of Scott Aniol I ran it by Dr. Jones. He agreed to look at it, then agreed [...]

I’ve mentioned before that I’m working through CJ Mahaney’s Living the Cross Centered Life with a couple men from our church. This morning we worked through chapters 7-8, the latter of which is entitled “The Scream of the Damned” and focuses on Christ’s forsakenness. What an amazing thought—that Jesus, who ever pleased the Father, was [...]

Bob Bixby and Joy McCarnan, two friends from Morning Star Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois, have kindly let me know that My Jesus Fair was recently introduced to Jamaica by a mission team from their church. A report of their ministry can be read here.
Jamaica?! How great is that?! What a blessing that the [...]

We’ve used Greg Habegger’s new tune for His Robes for Mine for several weeks now, and it’s gone well. However, today we used an update of the new version that was tweaked a bit to make it more “congregation-friendly.” We lowered it and simplified the end of the chorus by eliminating the 2/4 bar. Also, [...]

I’m thrilled to be able to provide this new resource to you in hopes that it will assist in your understanding and appreciation of Christ’s great work of justification. His Robes for Mine is a hymn which we have used at TCBC for the last 16 months, and it’s been a great meditation for us. [...]

I’ve been meditating on 2 Corinthians 8:9 for several months, and I preached on it today. What an amazing text! One result of my meditations is a new song entitled Rich through His Grace. I wrote a tune for the text, and a friend has provided me with a nice arrangement of it. The chords [...]

Not to be outdone (literally), Esther disappeared for a while this evening and emerged with her first hymn, God the Holy. Not bad for a six-year-old, and it’s all her work, tune and all! (Even her daddy doesn’t do that!)
How I pray that the Savior will make my girls’ black hearts white by His [...]

My oldest two daughters, Rebekah (age 10) and Rachel (age 8), just surprised me with a song of their own. They came up with the text, tune and accompaniment. I just transferred their work into Finale for them. Here is their first hymn writing effort: God Is My Shepherd.
Made my day! And when I told [...]

The Lord has graciously used the hymns I’ve posted at MTC to draw the attention of believers to Himself. In light of the positive response they’ve received, I’d like to make them a little easier to find. For that reason, I’ve added a new tab at the top of my blog labeled “Hymns I’ve Written.” [...]
