Josh Scheiderer Coming to Northeast Ohio

I’ve been praying for Bible Community Church of Mentor, Ohio since they began looking for a pastor last year. Bible Community is a church with a strong history. They have sent out several pastors and missionaries over the years, have taken a strong stand for truth, and have ministered to churches and families in Northeast [...]

Parasailing!

This week my family enjoyed a few days at Middle Bass Island, a vacation place on lake Erie—a trip that included parasailing! Here’s a short video I took while being dragged around by a boat some 300-plus feet below me:

Better than my parasailing was the parasailing of a 74-year-old friend of our family, whom I’ll [...]

Tribe Starters Are Unhittable

It’s early in the season, and sports don’t matter anyway, but this is pretty amazing:
“Cleveland starters have pitched 43 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings since Friday.” (from Sportsline.com)
They’ve already recorded a MLB-leading 7 shutouts. The Tribe’s hitting hasn’t been so good thus far, but that’s some crazy pitching.

Covenant Life Performs Andrew Lloyd Webber? Why?!

Over the last few years, I have come to appreciate the spirit and focus of Sovereign Grace Ministries, and especially of Covenant Life Church in the DC area. I’ve appreciated several of the songs SG has produced and have enjoyed some helpful correspondence with CL’s music minister Bob Kauflin. Also, I’ve learned much from the [...]

And BTW, go to church Sunday night.

Call it a pet peeve…

…but the statement “There is no difference between the secular and the sacred” is driving me nuts. So is its second cousin, “Every bush is a burning bush.” (With, um, all due respect to the original speaker, of course. Absolutely.)
I understand that we can glorify God even by eating or drinking. I get it. But [...]

Marine Corps Marathon

I returned today from 4 days in DC with my girls. We enjoyed taking in the many sites, including the White House, the Washington Monument, Iwo Jima, a sobering time at Arlington National Cemetery, and a tour of the Capitol set up by Ben Wright. (Thanks, Ben.) We had a great time, despite the fact [...]

Small Market Baseball

The Cleveland Indians, up 2-1 on the Red Sox (and their $145M payroll) after beating the Yankees (and their almost $189M payroll), have the 19th highest payroll in the Bigs at under $68M. Yet, the nucleus of their team is signed for long-term success. Nice.
Here’s another way of looking at it. Cleveland’s entire roster [...]

Bring It On: Tribe in 7

By the end of this series Hafner, Sizemore, Sabathia and Carmona will be household names, and Cleveland will have mowed down its second East Coast bankroll this postseason.
Get used to us. We’re built to last. Go Tribe!

Correspondence with Carl Trueman Posted at Reformation 21

Last night I sent an email to Carl Trueman notifying him of my blog post addressing his comments on Led Zeppelin at the Reformation 21 blog. This morning I received a very congenial (though unconvincing, IMO) response from Dr. Trueman. I considered posting the exchange, but Reformation 21 has already done so in their “We [...]
