It would be well worth your time to listen to Dr. Michael Barrett preach the excellencies of Christ from Colossians 1 in this sermon. It was preached at Bob Jones University in 2001. What an efficient use of 30 minutes!

Dr. Mohler on the Bible and Homosexuality

Al Mohler’s answer to Newsweek’s recent plug for homosexual marriage as a biblical option is well done. Ironically, it appears on the “On Faith” site which is published by the Washington Post and Newsweek. In his response to Newsweek’s Religion Editor Lisa Miller’s article (summarized here), Mohler also goes toe-to-toe with Jon Meacham, Newsweek’s Editor and one of On Faith’s hosts. Which statement of Meacham’s earned a rebuttal from Mohler? This one:

“Given the history of the making of the Scriptures and the millennia of critical attention scholars and others have given to the stories and injunctions that come to us in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament, to argue that something is so because it is in the Bible is more than intellectually bankrupt—it is unserious, and unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition.”

So believing that the Bible is true is “intellectually bankrupt…unserious, and [best of all] unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition”? That’s quite a threesome. I might note that the belief “that something is so because it is in the Bible” is the whole point of “the great Judeo-Christian tradition,” if the words “Judeo-” and “Christian” and “tradition” mean anything at all. In fact, denying this could be considered, well, intellectually bankrupt and unserious.
