I’ve collected a few worthwhile links, so I thought I’d string them together into this casserole of a post.
Generations of Valor
This picture from a Veteran’s Day memorial in Dallas is impossible to adequately describe. You need to take a look and read the caption below it. Would that all Americans were as grateful.

Noonan on Normandy
On a similar note, this article on the U.S. Military by Peggy Noonan is great. It was published way back in August, but is worth giving a read.

Thomas, Teresa and Television
Cal Thomas does a good job addressing the garbage that passes for modern entertainment here. I wish he had shown such good judgment here.

GO BUCKEYES!
Filed under: History Bits, Snickers, The Buckeye State, Web Gems

We have a man in our church whose son served with the Marine ordnance-disposal team. I am pretty sure L/Cpl Elder knew SSgt Graunke. Moving photo. The old man seems to have some tears in his eyes.
Peggy Noonan is preaching to the choir. No one on the left reads her articles unless they want to take her comments out of context. It’s amazing how people will call the WWII generation “The Greatest Generation”. Whatever! No denying they secured the freedom we enjoy today, but I think that picture of the Marine being embraced by the vetran of Pearl Harbor says it all. THIS generation of American service members should be recognized as a great generation, as well!
I love Cal Thomas. I am not sure you are aware of this, but I heard him speak in Lancaster, Ohio about 10 years ago. He is an unabashed Christian. On one of the Fox shows he is on, he was debating a liberal (just around Christmas time last year) about what Christ did on the Cross, and how Christ is NOT all inclusive, but very much exclusive. I thought that was brilliant!
Could that Double-A be Apple Eatin’ State? :D
Doug,
The photo is indeed moving. The idea that a WW2 vet can appreciate the sort of sacrifice SSgt Graunkee made better than most makes sense. The photo has been my mind a lot since I first saw it. (It was forwarded to me by my brother Jeff.)
As for Cal Thomas, I usually appreciate his perspective. That’s why I was so disappointed by his take on Mother Teresa, especially at a time when many were looking for answers. I think he blew it, big time.
Yep, I see your point. Not sure if he was saying something “PC” about her, or he actually believes what he said about her is true. Either way, he dropped the ball!
