Scott Aniol is always complaining that fundamentalists are 25 years behind evangelicals when it comes to our music. He's right, ya know, and it's downright embarrassing. In the information age, there's no reason why we can't speed up the ministry of imitation.
With that in mind, Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell's recent release of a sacred album has inspired the younger men of the OBF to start a boy band of our own. I'm pleased to introduce to the flogosphere the "YoBF Boyz": from right to left, they are "Brian" (Brian), "Go-T Perry-Noid" (Mark Perry), "Roop-Dawg" (Andy Rupert), "Dee-Gee-Bomb" (Dan Greenfield) and "Yo-Daddio-Sweet-C-Diddy" (um…me). Our first album Resolution hits the internet today.
Though there have been gospel quartets for years, we believe we're the first fundamentalist boy band in history. It's about time our movement got some "bling bling." This is gonna be big. Get your CD while supplies last…Dawg.

Oops. I almost forgot: HT to Mark “PhotoShop” Perry.
Nice tats, Dan.
Don’t tell anybody I told you this, but I heard Andy started combing his hair that way recently to hide his receding hairline. I’m not gossipping or anything, it’s just, uh, a prayer request, yeah, that’s it. [heh, heh]
[...] Oh, my. [...]
Well, I’m glad my rantings have finally had their intended affect! :)
Hey… are you guys in need of a drummer? Let me know…
You should see the back of my head when I’m done brushing.
Chris, I love the name of the album! This is too funny. ‘Perry-Noid”. lol
Go-T,
Speaking of combing your hair a new way to hide a receding hairline…
Guys!!! Just when I was getting back to my “fundamentalist” roots! Throw me a hurdle to jump (just kidding). If I weren’t such an older (?) guy, why I’d…I’m glad it’s not “early dementia” happening to me!…glad to see you all with a really positive sense of humor. This is priceless! “YoBF Boyz” indeed! Where do I buy the CD? Better yet, where are y’all hawking it?
Hi, Dale. We do take a lot of things seriously. “Ourselves” is just not one of them. :-)
Roop-Dawg…and to think, he hangs with my little brother (back on the block I’ll bet)!!!…well, got to get back to my cutting my grass (I think today I’ll be cutting the lawn with…Chris Tomlin, FFH, Sela, Littrell…lol!!!) Got to watch that influence, Roop…my little brother is so impressionable. We may come out to Ohio to visit, and he’ll be listening to Columbus’s own CCM radio! Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
Andy, what I’d really hate to see is your shower drain after you get done washing that mop. . . . :-p
Wait till you hear how the congregation responded.
When we sent Dan down to that state south of the border we thought he would have a sanctifying influence. Instead I see he is being corrupted by the natives! :)
Of course, Bob, some would note that the OBF would not have taken this turn without the influx of DBTS grads from “the state up north.” Who is corrupting whom?
I wonder if Dee-Gee-Bomb’s involvement with this will come up during his ordination council this coming Thursday? Talk about bad timing. Ouch.
Greg, you play the “traps”? You know, the YOBF has expanded the borders to include a church from Upstate New York, so they may even allow a church from Maine to join the fun, as well!
Note to Dale…I was influential in helping “Roop-Dawg” RUN from CCM, so I am not impressionable!
Scott plays the “traps”? Too cool!!!
Bob,
You know the philosophy: “in order to win the world you have to become like the world.” :-p
Wow. Dan Greenfield commented on a blog? Wonders never cease.
Just needed a little prodding to get me out of my comfort zone! hahahaha
Nice. Fundamentalism is in blog peril every day (glug, glug, glug), yet when Dan finally finds his voice, it’s to respond to comments about his tattoos?
(Note: “Blog peril” has no connection whatsoever to “genuine peril.”)
Oh oh. After posing for that picture, nobody will read my modesty article.
As I look at the “YoBF” photo album, I noticed that Mark looks a lot like Elliott Yamin from “American Idol”:
http://www.americanidol.com/contestants/elliott_yamin/
Are you SURE Mark isn’t two timin’ the “YoBF” under another name?
BTW, that’s ALL the women at work talk about is “American Idol”, so I had to watch it for myself to see what the huhbub was all about. That’s when I noticed Mark!
An Amish guy on American Idol? What next?
I’ve never seen it, Doug, but I had to laugh at America in general & Cleveland in particular on my way to work the other day (Thursday?) The host of a local talk show was going on and on and on and on about the travesty/injustice/outrage of a certain guy getting voted off the show. And he was serious. From his passion & level of frustration, you’d think he was talking about the hotly-contested 2000 election or something. Ridiculous.
Speaking of American Idol…
Many of you probably know Paul Whitt, currently on staff at Northland, but before that the youth pastor at Berean Baptist outside Atlanta. Paul had an outreach to a local public school where he was able to teach a Bible class or lead some sort of Bible study. One of the high school students that came to his class was Diana DeGarmo, an American Idol contestant that eventually came in second place that season. My understanding is that while she was traveling and taping for the show, she was carrying along and reading Bible study material Paul gave her, including Jim Berg’s, Changed into His Image.
He’s Yiddish, not Amish. At least you got the “ish” part right! :D
One of the helpers asked our Children’s Worship Service kids if they knew how to spell Amish. “I know! I know,” said one boy. “O-M-I-esh.”
*chuckles at the photo* Actually Brian Littrell grew up singing in the choir at a Baptist church in Kentucky where his parents still live and go. His parents are very happy he has been able to share his faith through his solo music now. He had planned on going to a Baptist college to be a minister of music before getting the call to join BSB - God had other plans for him so he could be where he is now - able to share God’s message through music all over the world - such as in Japan where he did sold out Christian music message concerts . And his recent work with other Christian artists in the -Glory Revealed - cd is one of my all time fav Christian music cds. Each song is based directly on parts of the bible. You should check the Glory Revealed cd out if you haven’t yet.
